Miami named most miserable U.S. city (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) ? Warm sun, white beaches, and million-dollar mansions notwithstanding, Miami has captured the dubious distinction of being the most miserable city in the United States, according to a new poll.

The playground of the rich and famous is home to a crippling housing crisis, one of the highest crime rates in the country, and lengthy daily commutes for workers, all of which have propelled it to the No. 1 position in the Forbes.com list.

"Miami has sun and beautiful weather but other things make people miserable. You have this two-tier society: glitzy South Beach attracts celebrities, but the income inequality has skyrocketed in recent years," explained Forbes Senior Editor Kurt Badenhausen.

The rankings are based on factors including jobless rates, violent crime, foreclosures, income and property taxes, as well as considerations like weather, commute time and political corruption.

Reeling for decades from the decline of the U.S. auto industry, Michigan's troubled duo of Detroit and Flint registered at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, among the most miserable cities.

"Detroit and Flint are struggling," said Badenhausen. "Violent crime is highest in the country in Detroit; housing prices are down 55 percent. Detroit is closing schools and laying off policemen. In recent years they have been demolishing houses to change their city landscapes"

West Palm Beach, Florida and Sacramento, California rounded out the top five cities.

"We're trying to judge cities where residents have a lot of complaints. It doesn't mean that there aren't terrific things there," he said.

And for the haves Miami's charms remain undiminished.

"The one percent in Miami is doing fantastic. But for the vast majority, who make less than $75,000 (a year), Miami can be a challenging place," he said. "Forty-seven percent of homeowners sit on underwater mortgages. That's tough."

The Basics of Approved Auto Loans | Auto Credit Express Auto Loan ...

What it takes to meet the basic requirements of most no credit auto loans

What we can tell you

Before filling out an application for terrible credit auto loans there are some basic requirements you should be aware of.

We are familiar with all of them because for over twenty years we?ve been associated with bad credit auto sales here at Auto Credit Express. A website we created shares our expertise on issues ranging from tote the note dealers to cosigning loans as well as today?s topic, the basics of poor credit car loans.

FICO scores

To start with, you should know your credit scores. Most bad credit lenders deal in the FICO score range of 500 to 640. Anything more than a 640 is typically considered near-prime, while prime starts around 720. Although nearly all bad credit lenders loan to near-prime customers, credit unions, captive finance companies and a few banks are noted for offering these customers better interest rates.

Secondly, you can?t be a credit ?ghost?. Lenders check how long you?ve been using credit. Unless you?re applying for a college grad program, having a credit history of at least 3 years is usually considered a minimum. An advantage is having at least one prior auto loan.

Income conditions

Monthly income requirements vary by lender, but a $1,500 to $1,800 gross income before taxes is typically the minimum needed to be considered. The higher your income, the larger your available selection of lenders (and cars) will usually be.

Lenders then total up your monthly debts, compare this to your income, and use this ratio to determine if you have enough income available to qualify for an auto loan plus car insurance.

Bad credit lenders also typically require that your total debt, including a car payment, not exceed 40% to 50% of your monthly gross income. In addition, most lenders prefer a monthly vehicle payment that?s less than 15% to 20% of your total income.

Down payment

Generally all bad credit lenders will require a down payment, either in cash or actual trade equity because customers with money invested tend to keep up with their monthly payments. A down payment of 10 percent is typically considered to be the minimum ? with larger down payments increasing the chances of a credit approval.

Vehicles

Most bad credit lenders will not let you to have more than one car payment at a time. If you are currently financing a car, usually you?ll need to either pay it off or trade it in. You also won?t be able to finance a commercial vehicle, conversion van, motor home or anything with a salvage, rebuilt or other type of branded title.

Other policies

??? ?Job time ? The longer the better. Short job time can be offset by situations such as higher income, employment in the same field, lengthy residence time or home ownership.
??? ?Bankruptcy ? Bad credit lenders will typically not finance individuals with open or multiple bankruptcies. Only a few will consider someone currently in an open Chapter 13 and, even then, will require an order to incur additional debt from the court before reviewing the application.
??? ?Accuracy ? Be prepared to back up application entries with proof. This is not the time to begin a career in ?creative writing?.

Ferry sinks off Papua New Guinea with 350 aboard

Rescuers have plucked more than 200 survivors from the sea off Papua New Guinea's east coast after a ferry sank Thursday with as many as 350 people on board, officials said.

An airplane from Australia, three helicopters and eight ships were scouring the search area after the MV Rabaul Queen went down while traveling from Kimbe on the island of New Britain to coastal town of Lae on the main island, Australian Maritime Safety Authority said in a statement.

The ferry sank 50 miles east of Lae and 10 miles from shore, the statement said.

Australian Broadcasting Corp. quoted police in Kimbe, where the ferry sailed from, as saying most of the passengers were students and trainee teachers.

The authority's dedicated search and rescue airplane based in the northern Australian city of Cairns had reached the scene by afternoon and another two Australian airplanes were on the way. All three carried life rafts that could be dropped to survivors in the water.

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O'Neill said the cause of the sinking was unknown.

He said more than 300 people were aboard the ship, although the precise number had yet to be confirmed.

'Major tragedy'
Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard called the incident a "major tragedy."

"Given the likely very high loss of life here, I think when this news comes to the attention of Australians around the country they will be thinking about the people of PNG as they respond to this tragedy," she added.

The Australian maritime agency initially detected the ferry's distress beacon and alerted the PNG Maritime Rescue Coordination Center, which is coordinating the rescue effort.

US cruise bookings fall after Concordia shipwreck

The Australian statement said 219 survivors had been recovered by five ships by late Thursday.

It added that 350 people were believed to be on board, but Papua New Guinea's National Maritime Safety Authority (NMSA) rescue coordinator Captain Nurur Rahman said the true figure was likely lower.

Oil spreads from wreck of ship off Italy coast

"I cannot confirm or deny the 350 missing number. It is hearsay," Rahman said. "I have not seen the manifest as yet, but it is likely around 300."

'Bad weather' or light swell?
Rahman said he was being fed information from an NMSA agent on board one of the ships.

"The dynamics of this thing are changing all the time, minute by minute," he said.

Australian Maritime Safety Authority spokeswoman Carly Lusk said a greater loss of life may have been avoided as sea conditions were good, with a 10 knot wind and a light swell.

"We are getting more life rafts out into the water. There have been more reports of vessels sighting people in life rafts, so we're hoping for the number (of survivors) to increase in the very near future," she said.

The AFP news agency reported that ferry operator Star Ships had said the sinking had been caused by "bad weather."

Papua New Guinea, Australia's nearest neighbor, is largely undeveloped, with poor infrastructure and limited facilities despite enormous resources wealth.

The majority of Papua New Guinea's six million people eke out subsistence lifestyles in villages clinging to jungle-clad mountainsides or scattered around its many islands.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

The way to Get rid of Bacterial Vaginosis ... - New Health and Fitness

New Health And Fitness.Org - Health Information You Can Use

There has been considerable scientific study work all around the planet by a considerable number of researchers with several associations, and yet the actual cause of bacterial vaginitis remains unclear till today. The consensus about the true causes of vaginal bacteriosis is far from reached despite such a lot of study studies on this subject.

There exists a mind-boggling quantity of germs that reside within the human vagina and form the wholesome vaginal flora. Vaginosis is seen to occur when the health-friendly germs that reside within the vagina get replaced by booming amounts of several types of harmful bacteria. The outgrowth of good germs and their replacement by the bad ones can be ascribed to change in the levels of pH ? a factor that is used to measure acidity ? within the genitals of the women. To prevent Vaginosis, you need to control the vaginal acidity strongly and keep it within manage so that the good bacteria can keep residing freely and the dangerous microbes never get the remotest opportunity to stay and grow.

Apple cedar vinegar is not the only organic treatment for bv; there are quite a few other remedies also that are appropriate for women encountering bacterial vaginitis, which includes holistic herbs and tea tree oil. Tea tree oil can be mixed as a part of the entire bath mixture just like you can do with apple cedar vinegar and use that to use through bath for a long enough period on the lower portion of their bodies. Among the most famous options is to treat bacterial vaginosis is to use tea tree oil along with hot water in form of a blend to take your bath and making sure that you soak the bottom portion of your body for a little bit so that the mixture gets enough time to react on the Vaginal bacteriosis that you are bearing.

Sitting in water combined with a few drops of the anti-bacterial tea tree oil is a way to guarantee that the external area of your genital area is cleaned up and you gain a great degree of protection from most or all of the types of microbes that are responsible for BV. Tea tree oil can be applied outwardly instead of straight being mixed into bath water. Some herbs exist that assist the general human wellness in a deep and impactful manner and they also minimize the impacts of vaginosis on the human body by a large degree.

If you find yourself wondering what is the most typical genital disease amongst ladies of baby producing age then the reply is vaginal bacteriosis. Also known as Bv, vaginal bacteriosis seems to be a issue that keeps happening on and off, leading to psychological frustration in the mind of many patients. Aside from its widely acknowledged name bacterial vaginitis, it is also called bv, vaginitis and vaginal bacteriosis in several walks of the society. Two major types of vaginosis are observed within females of the baby producing age ? the recurrent Bacterial vaginitis and the ordinary Vaginosis that doesn?t recur.

While it is a common belief developed by many that vaginal bacteriosis is the impact of having many sexual companions, the truth is that this issue is not a Std and has got to do with genital ph more than any other factor. Bacterial vaginosis can be determined by a lot of indicators such as a consistent liquid coming from the vagina, and a awful smell associated with the discharge in almost all of the instances.

For additional information regarding BV go to Bacterial vaginosis and Bacterial vaginosis treatment portal.

Katy Perry will take the stage at the Grammy Awards on February 12. The two-time nominee was announced as the latest performer on Wednesday (February 1).

The currently blue-haired pop star is up for Record of the Year for her feel-good empowerment track, "Firework." The Teenage Dream single is also up for Best Pop Solo Performance. This is hardly her first time performing on the show.

At the 2011 Grammys, she performed her songs "Not Like the Movies" and "Teenage Dream." The Valentine-themed performance also included the debut of footage from her wedding to her now-estranged husband, Russell Brand. In 2009, Perry performed her breakthrough hit "I Kissed a Girl" surrounded by giant, glittering pieces of prop fruit. And in 2010 she took the stage at the Grammy Nominations show and sang her ubiquitous candy-coated track, "California Gurls."

The same day that Perry was announced as a performer, fellow nominee Drake was announced as one of the night's big presenters, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley.

Adele announced her long-rumored Grammy performance on Tuesday. It marks her first performance since a November vocal surgery. "I'm immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year's Grammy Awards," Adele said. "It's an absolute honor to be included in such a night and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all." Rihanna, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson, Jason Aldean and Nicki Minaj are also confirmed to perform live at the 54th annual awards show, which will be hosted by LL Cool J.

91% Miss Bala

In "Miss Bala," Laura(Stephanie Sigman), a 23-year old shop girl, and her friend Suzu(Lakshmi Picazo) sign up for a beauty pageant, Miss Baja California. That night instead of shopping for a dress, Suzu drags her friend along to a nightclub. Bored, Laura wanders off where she is found by a gunman who asks her questions about who is inside, gives her a little money and tells her to get lost. Well, not before Laura can get Suzu out but they become separated once the shooting starts and Laura makes it to safety out a window. The following morning Suzu is still missing and Laura does the sensible thing in going to a policeman. But instead of taking her to a police station, he takes her to Lino(Noe Hernandez), the criminal leader, who asks her what she knows before inquiring if she can drive a car. There are statistics given at the end of "Miss Bala" about how many people have died in the drug wars in northern Mexico. Now, using a beauty pageant may seem like a screwy way at first to get there but according to the literature, a beauty queen is supposed to represent her subjects and Laura does, if you mean her subjects include those trapped in between the authorities and the criminals. The movie is on neither side, as it paints the authorities as corrupt and in cold blooded fashion Lino lets the DEA know that they are not welcome in Mexico. All of which is seen through Laura's eyes as she provides a ground level view of what goes on around her for the viewer, as she becomes little more than a commodity to the criminals with her body(notice how it is described, by the way) used and abused, with little choice in her actions. Even with large amounts of money on the table, she is not really tempted, either, with the exception of a scene in an upscale dress shop. The most important lesson in all of this is to always listen to your parents.

Florida NAACP Members 'Will Not Be Silenced' By New Voter Laws

'The rules are setting up minority and young voters to fail,' University of South Florida NAACP President Vanity Shields tells MTV News.
By Gil Kaufman

TAMPA, Florida — It's fitting that 20-year-old University of South Florida Junior Vanity Shields, 20, chose to speak to MTV's Power of 12 in the shadow of her campus' Martin Luther King Jr. memorial reflecting pond.

Nearly 50 years after the Voting Rights Act of 1965 outlawed discriminatory laws that disenfranchised black voters thanks to the tireless work of the civil-rights giant, Shields is preparing for another voting-rights fight in her state. The president of the NAACP chapter on the USF campus and first-time voter is concerned that a new Florida law, ostensibly aimed at cutting down on voter fraud, might leave many young and African-American voters off the rolls this presidential election year.

"I personally feel that the rules are setting up minority and young voters to fail," the health sciences major said of the new law, which carries heavy penalties for third-party organizations trying to register new voters if they fail to comply with the sometimes-byzantine rules. "Now they have 48 hours to fill out this massive amount of paperwork."

A portion of the new law includes restrictions on community-based voter-registration drives that require anyone registering new voters on behalf of organizations such as Rock the Vote or the League of Women Voters to turn all forms in within 48 hours of obtaining a signature or face unspecified civil penalties. Those two groups have been forced to suspend their voter-registration efforts in Florida this year because, according to a press release announcing a lawsuit seeking to block the new provisions, they "include burdensome administrative requirements, unreasonably tight deadlines for submission for completed forms and unnecessarily harsh penalties for even the slightest delay or mistake."

Shields said the USF NAACP chapter has been very active on the issue and planned a general body meeting called "The Colors of Justice" on Monday (January 30) to discuss the new rules and raise awareness about them. There will also be a voter-awareness rally soon, though she said efforts such as the NAACP's get-out-the-vote "Souls to the Poll" action from years past has been canceled this year because of new restrictions on registering voters on the Sunday before an election.

"I am originally from New Jersey, and Hillsboro County in Tampa is a pre-clearance [area]. ... What that means is that people who were previously registered are still able to vote, but with this new law, if Hillsboro County were not pre-clearance, I would have to go back to New Jersey to vote," said Brianna Simms, 20, the second vice president of the USF NAACP chapter. "As a college student, I don't have the funds or the time to do that, so that would limit my impact on the country in choosing our next president."

Shields said awareness of the voting issue is pretty low at the moment, but she plans to start posting about it on Twitter and Facebook, distribute fliers and ask her fellow students if they know about the changes. "I feel that our demographic is being targeted and that they're trying to silence us, but we will not be silenced," she said. "We will speak our minds and keep our right to vote."
